University of Wisconsin – Eau Claire, Career Counselor

POSITION: A full-time, professional academic staff position is available in the Advising, Retention and Career Center beginning November 1, 2018. The working title for this assignment is Career Counselor with an official title in the Student Services Coordinator title series. This is a renewable assignment. The salary will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
• Masters’ Degree from a regionally accredited institution, obtained by August 2021
• Demonstrated recent experience working in higher education or collegiate recruiting
• Demonstrated ability to:
o provide career counseling to diverse students
o plan and facilitate group presentations and workshops
o work as a cohesive member of a team with a professional demeanor, high energy, excellent communication, research, public relations and presentation skills
o set goals, develop programs and methods to achieve goals
• Strong organizational and interpersonal skills

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
• Educational background in Counseling or relevant field
• Demonstrated experience with resume writing, interviewing techniques, internship and job search strategies in a Career Services office
• Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with faculty, staff and community members
• Experience in teaching a career development course
• Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusiveness

DUTIES:
Internship and Career Counseling:
• Provide one on one career counseling assistance and group workshops to undergraduate and graduate students.
• Coach students from all Colleges on the benefits and process of obtaining internships, including resume and cover letter development, professional networking and interviewing.
• Assist students from all Colleges with the job search process, including professional networking, resume and cover letter development and interviewing.
• Working with others, serve as campus resource for promoting post-graduation jobs and internships to internal and external sources- faculty, staff, alumni, community members, prospective students and families.
• Offer career development activities to continuing students and as part of the job search process.
• Coordinate and facilitate workshops and instructional activities related to the internship and job search.
• Offer comprehensive internship and job search services to students from all Colleges.
• Build and maintain relationships with local and regional recruiters.
• Instruct IDIS 230, an experiential internship course designed to offer students opportunities to get academic credit for off-campus practical experiences and Gen 250, a career-planning course.
• Collaborate with academic advisors and other campus student services regarding internship opportunities.
• Serve as a resource to faculty and academic advisors on the topics of internships and workforce trends, to assure students’ post-graduation outcomes are being met.
• Work closely with Outreach Counselor and Internship Coordinator to connect students to employers and attend career related events.
• Complete projects for the office that help promote Career Services to students and faculty.

THE UNIT: The unit of Advising, Retention and Career Center is a part of the Enrollment Management division of UW-Eau Claire. It consists of 47 staff members committed to provide centralized support for students. The Career Services office consists of 5.5 fte designated to help with a variety of career planning needs.
